Mr. G. Lakshmanan

Lakshmanan is a dynamic young tabla player whose performances consistently leave a lasting impression on his audiences. Beginning his musical journey at the age of four under the tutelage of Guru Ahmed Sarfraaz and later as a senior disciple of Guru Mihir Kundu, he has cultivated a profound mastery of the tabla. A graduate of the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) diploma program, Lakshmanan was honored with the prestigious Vadhya Visharad title, reserved for the institution's best-performing students.

Lakshmanan's proficiency as a tabla artist has garnered him recognition both locally and internationally. An accomplished soloist and a sought-after accompanist for instrumental, vocal, and dance recitals, he has performed extensively, showcasing his exceptional talent. Among his many accolades are the 1st Prize in the Tabla Open Category at the National Indian Music Competitions 2020 organized by the National Arts Council and the 1st Prize in the Tabla Senior Category at the Sur Taal Sangam Competitions 2019 organized by Zee Television.

Beyond his achievements on stage, Lakshmanan is a dedicated educator, sharing his passion for tabla with aspiring musicians. He is a certified music instructor with the Ministry of Education (MOE) under the Arts and Music Instructors Scheme (AMIS), where he combines his technical expertise with a thoughtful approach to teaching.

Lakshmanan’s academic journey complements his artistry. He graduated with a Diploma in Music from Lasalle College of the Arts and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Music and Society at the National University of Singapore. His research interests delve into the intersectionality between culture and the human relationship with the arts, further enriching his understanding of music's role in society.

With a deep passion for music, Lakshmanan continues to excel as a performer, teacher, and researcher, inspiring audiences and students alike while contributing significantly to the legacy of Indian classical music.
